Pooh bear’s heart

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Well, Bridgette is now almost six years old, it’s amazing how they grow so fast. It’s either that, or I’m hoping that they stay so cute forever. Today we were at Megan’s softball game. It’s her first year of playing softball and her team is doing so well. Megan is doing well to, she made it home twice today!!! Naomi was at the ABC Pre-School board meeting while Bridgette and I watched Megan play softball. Here was our conversation about Pooh Bear’s heart:
Daddy: Does Pooh Bear have a heart
Bridgette: Yes, he does
Daddy: How do you know?
Bridgette: Because he loves me
Daddy: How do you know he loves you?
Bridgette: I just do
Daddy: What does he do to show his love for you?
Bridgette: Nothing, I just know he loves me…
Bridgette: wait…
Bridgette: I know he loves me because when I’m scared and I hold him I’m not scared anymore
Bridgette: …and he lets me bite his ears
Daddy: Oh, he must love you very much then if he lets you bite his ears.
It was just cute, it’s pretty fun to see how they think. Bridgette really processes some interesting throughts sometimes, it’s cute just to probe and see where her mind is going every now and then. The other day we were explaining about the 24 elders and the thrown of God. How they have gold bowls that are filled with incense which are the prayers of God’s people. When the bowls are full, the angels pour the answer over the earth. Bridgette very excitedly proclaims, Oh, I know how they do that. There are ten thousand and one hundred colors and each prayer is a different color and then when that color is full the answer comes. Wow, I was pretty amazed. I don’t know if it works that way, but that’s a great concept, and she really understood it.

Howard be thy name

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006

A few years ago I saw one these “cute things kids have said” emails, one of the funniest ones was a little kid praying the Lords prayer, “Our Father which are in heaven, Howard be thy name,” well it was our turn.  Megan has been learning the Lord’s prayer, and we’ve had “Howard be thy name,” it’s really cute, but she’s been corrected.  Unfortunately, I didn’t think about getting a recording of it…

Megan’s self-analysis

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

Last night, putting the girls to sleep, Megan saiys, “I haven’t lied for a long time, actually, I can’t even remember the last time I lied,” then in a very sad tone of voice she says, “I can remember the last time Bridgette lied, I can’t help it, my brain won’t let it go.”  This sort of blew me away, I had no idea five year olds could think so deeply about things, but we did console her, I just wasn’t sure what exactly to say, all I could think of was that she should try to remember the nice things Bridgette does too.  She liked that.

The same evening, Megan says, “you spell doggy, D-O-G-G-Y.”  I was quite impressed, but certain she must have read it somewhere, she’s really good at spelling, but the words can’t have double-consonants unless she’s read it before.  So I asked her and she says, “I just figured it out, I thought if Mommy is spelled M-O-M-M-Y, then doggy, must be D-O-G-G-Y.”  Now I was really impressed.  It’s funny how they figure stuff like this out…

Hmm, I was wondering…

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

…why was I born first? Says Megan. Apparently they were just driving along in the car and Megan expresses her question. So I ask, what were you thinking about? Well, she says, I know I was born first because of the difference between us, like I’m five and Bridgette is three, but I was wondering how I was born first?
Pretty cute, hopefully I’ll have an answer for her when I get home this evening.

Experiencing computer trouble…

Saturday, November 5th, 2005

Megan is by now quite adept at using the computer and working her way around. Well she’s busy drawing a picture and she clicked the “New” button. The program asked her to save which she did, but she couldn’t get her picture back, this is what she said: “Daddy! Daddy! It asked me to save and I said yes, but I can’t get it back. How can it do that?” All of this was exclaimed in a very desparate tone of voice. I did manage to find her drawing and reload it. I got a great big hug and thank you for that. What better payment?

I wish I had a brother…

Sunday, September 4th, 2005

After church this morning we had our cookie and sat on the steps outside the church chatting. This was one of the conversations:
Megan: ‘I wish I had a brother.’
Bridgette: ‘But you’re happy with me.’
Megan: ‘Yes, I would rather have you than a brother.’
Bridgette: ‘Oh, okay’
Daddy: ‘Bridgette, I think Megan means she’d like a brother too, but she’d much rather have you instead of a brother.’
Happiness.
